I have an 8 valve non-turbo 1986 c900, that JUST started running hot on the way home yesterday. Now it's been almost 100 here for weeks, and I haven't had a problem. Here's a quick rundown:
good coolant level
no coolant in oil or viceversa
water pump seems to be working, it'a fairly new (about a year old)
tested with thermostat in and taken out, no difference (thermo is new also)
fans cycle as they are suppose to, so thermo-fan switch is working
temp of coolant DOES NOT go down even when driving
I have bled it 3-4 times and cannot get any air out
It's almost like the coolant isn't circulating. The fans come on, and when I'm driving at 55-60 or whatever I"d expect it to cool down a little but the temp guage doesn't budge
I'm thinking: Blocked radiator or bad temp sending unit? I mean the fans are coming on, but a lot LATER (at a higher coolant temp) than they did before...it use to be the needle was in the middle or lower, always.
If the water pump has come apart or died, how can I check quickly without removing it? I guess disconnect a hose and start her up?
Any and all help and advice is appreciated, she's my daily driver and I have had no problems until now!
