How do you tell freon type? How does one tell whether the current freon is R 12 or 134? I don't see a sign on it. And the compressor really cares which it is? I'm told that you can convert a 12 to use 134 somehow. Apparently 12 is illegal unless you have some kinda license to handle it...(so I'm hoping it's 134)
And when the guy changed the compressor, that was the ONLY major thing he changed (new hoses all around it). But the receiver/drier is the same (original stock part). I didn't see any corrosion anywhere when I looked around this morning.
As for going to the "Stealer" -heheh- what a mistake!! The jerks tried to milk me for nearly 2,000.00 when all I need is a freon charge and a radiator repair. Why do people think I'm rich and stupid just because I drive the best car on the road?
They did say the reason the 2nd radiator fan isn't cycling is that the compressor won't run if the freon's empty, which is good to know. Say, why would it be empty in the first place? Hmmm. Maybe I do need a drier...
