I did this on an '89 900S, didn't even occur to me to take off the hood, radiator tips to rear and lifts up off two pins after two 10mm-head bolts unscrew at top (and after draining and after all wires, hoses etc. disconnected). Fans unplug, can stay right on the rad. till it's out.
Watch to keep hold of the rubber doughnut cushions that go on the bottom pins.
Tho it's undeniably true, hood does come off and go back on easy.
