Crank Seal disaster update

So I am all rreassembled and ready to refit engine to car...remember a few weeks back my newly built motor crapped the main crank seal letting that stupid spring get sucked into the oil pump and ran the bearings...
I'm not the first one to have this happen...but here's a few other things worth noting...
1. Swarf from the ground up bits travelled EVERYWHERE around the engine except the cylinder head??????? This was totally OK thank god.
2. Swarf beat the oil filter as did several larger bits of the spring ending up lodged in the bearing cups to do their evil deed.
3. Even the oil cooler had to be flushed...glad I did...you guessed it...more swarf!
4. The following bits were replaced; Main and Big End bearings,("polished" and scored)/Oil Pump and timing cover,(scored beyond use). All seals and gaskets again. No damage to turbo/cylinder head or anything else...though another 100 miles I'm sure it would have been another story!

I did go to a Saab indy mechanic I know to ask to borrow the crankseal tool...he didn't have one and told me they hammer the seals in gently and has NEVER had one do what mine did in 20 years of being in business....so I have done the same and am NERVOUS. I DID notice the new seal, made by Elring seemed better made than the first black seal I got. We'll see.

Moral; be VERY VERY VERY careful when replacing this seal not to dislodge the clamp spring ....or you'll be reading this thread again and again!
