This is what I did when the slave cylinder in my car failed.
Get yourself a couple of 1" or 1-1/8" nuts. Remove the pressure plate bolts. Pry up one side of the pressure plate enough to slip the nut betwen the pressure plate and the flywheel. Rotate the flywheel 90 degrees (counterclockwise as viewed from the front, as I'm sure you know [had to say it on general principles].) Pry the pressure plate up enough to slip the other nut between the plate and the flywheel. Insert the pressure plate ring tool. You may need to encourage it to go in all the way with a few taps of a hammer and screwdriver at some spots.
That worked for me with no ill effects on the pressure plate diaphragm spring.
I tried other things like small stacks of coins, but they tend to get a little squirrelly, fling out in all directions, and let the pressure plate snap onto fingertips at the wrong times. Not a good thing.
