Listen around the engine for a vacuum leak. I found an intake manifold gasket broken and I found this by spraying WD-40 around the injectors, vacuum bushing and finally the intake manifold surface where it touches the head. The revs increased and the WD-40 acted like a fuel. I rechecked the leak location by putting a glob of heavy grease and it settled the idle down to normal. Replaced the gasket and this made the check engine light go out, since the motor was running normally again. Tell us the final outcome.
