Turn steering wheel so front of wheel would be inboard. That way the tie rod is exteneded out for the best access.Loosen nut to finger tight.Only hit the cast arm that extends rearward from the spindle with a hammer-I use a 2 or 3# small sledge hammer. A couple good hits and the tapered shaft of the tie rod should pop out. CAUTION: in my opinion the hammer blows need to be as close to parallel to the side of the car as possible. If you hit straight in from the side I think you risk damaging the steering rack teeth.
