Re: Fuel Injection Computer Needed, Where Look? 86' 900 Posted by CMyles [Email] In Reply to: Re: Fuel Injection Computer Needed, Where Look? 86' 900, nuysSAAB |
Now it sounds even more like an AMM (air mass meter) problem. I've got to assume that if the guys had it for days they probably ruled out the bypass valve and its hoses as this would be pretty obvious, but it's a good thought and if it's not an AMM problem I'd go to the bypass next. Tossing a known good air mass meter in is about as difficult as filling the gas tank. Easier than doing an oil change and most Saab shops I know of keep a test unit on hand just for such occassions. Remember that if you do the Air Mass Meter test you ussually must give the car a few minutes of driving so the AMM and ECU get to know each other before reaching a verdict. So in your case you may have to start the car with the good AMM and after it runs OK turn it off let it sit for a while and then see how it starts up. If you have a freind with an '86 or '87 900 turbo (with a good AMM) and a screwdriver you can do this check yourself. Also SMALL vacuum leaks can cause such problems that are less evident after warm up.
