Here's my story, my first Saab was a 1982 900T with APC & 5 speed.
The Odometer broke at 257K miles in 1990, drove it every day untill 2002, and had little or no problems with it untill 2000-2001. I never replaced teh Turbo on it, and I bought it from teh original owner who said he never did as well.... but I wondered. I blew the transmission while playing in the snow, had the original clutch (again as far as I know) replaced at that time. Also had the wheel bearings and balljoints/tie rod ends replaced at that time. Other than that just the normal brake/caliper/exhaust, radiator that comes in time on all cars.
Thankfully when I needed the major work done, I was in Springfield, MO, and Nick and John Taliaferro (Genuine SAAB) did the work for me. Great guys. About the only thing I liked about MO...... Or as I like to call it, misery...... Anyhow, The car sat for a year untouhed while I was in Iraq, when I came back charged the battery and vroom...... started right up.
I figure by that time, it had no less than 400K on it. I sold it to a 1SG at Fort Campbell, who used his old 900S as a parts donor, put a new exhaust, and drives it every day still. I love the classic Saabs. I love my 9-3 too, and even though it outperforms in speed, comfort, handleing, etc, it lacks character. My 1st choice of any car would be a NEW C-900 turbo. I am VERY excited my son chose a C-900 as his first car.
