Last night I just bought a '90 900T. The car has about 90,000 miles and the only major thing is it pops out of reverse. Even when you hold the stick in, it pretty much doesn't want to be there. Hopefully, they haven't tried the reverse quick fix yet and that will solve the problem. The interior is in excellent shape as well as the body. The only cosmetic problem (besides cracked dash) is the right rear quarter panel looks like someone washed it with comet. Other than that, it should suit my needs.
Since my '89 has a chipped first or laygear and my SPG has a major triple clunk in all gears, I need something to move around in while I fix the '89. Depending on how hard it is to pull the tranny, I might get the SPG going again also or part it out.
Here's some questions about the '90:
1) The brake pedal is extremely stiff. I've never had ABS before and as I understand, the pedal is generally a lot harder. I can push it about half an inch to an inch and then it's extremely firm. I ran some accumulator tests and it seems ok. ABS and Brake warning light light up, pump activates, fluid drops about 3/4 of an inch, warning lights come on after about 10 or 11 pedal pumps. Could there be something else or is this just the feel of an ABS pedal?
2) The turbo gauge shows a lot of vacuum when running. At idle, the needle is about 1/4 of an inch off of the bottom right of the guage and is pinned during decelleration. It does rise up to about 3/4 yellow when boosting though. Is this amount of vaccuum typical?
3) The steering wheel has about 1/2 an inch of free play. What I mean is if my hands are on the wheel, I can move them up or down about 1/2" without affecting the wheels. Is this the U-joint in the steering column?
4) NO DIPSTICK FOR TRANNY!!! What the hell is that? There's a bolt where it would enter the case but no dipstick! Ever heard of that?
I'll probably post more as I find more.
Thanks for your time!
