Thanks for all the great answers. I guess I should have better clarified my request. When I did the head gasket I did the 30k service at the same time. So spark plugs, distributor, rotor, air filter, rubber hoses, and bushings are all new. I did have the injectors cleaned and matched. Over the past life, I have replaced the passenger side and front engine mounts, placed both the mid and end mufflers, replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, replaced the Hall sensor. I also checked and re-checked about 10 times the cam timing before putting it all together again. Besides, it was operating the same before the head gasket job. The engine timing is fixed on the EZK and is right at 14 degrees at 850 rpm. So basically the cat is the only thing from the list that I have not changed.
I'm not intending to do anything drastic to the engine to change the characteristics (like different cams or ECU's). I have a 911 and that one only comes alive from 4000 to 6000 rpms. The stock Saab will never be that way. Probably balancing the moving parts in the engine would go a long way but unfortunately the Saab engine is so robust that I don't foresee any good reasons to take the engine apart.
It will go to 5500 if pushed but it just doesn't feel or sounds great, compared to other 900NA's I have driven. Maybe I will have Anders take a look at it one day since I'm not too far from him.
Thanks again, Harold
