If the car was an '86 that someone converted to the 'newer' style headlights and bumpers they would have to change the plug to the headlights. The '86 should have H4's and the '87> should have the 9004s(?). If someone retofitted to the later style you should see splices at the headlight connectors. If there are no splices then the car came with the newer '87> headlights, bumpers etc., but was built in '86. Just my guess.
