I was given an '85 900 Turbo that I am trying to revive. It has a great body (no rust at all), the paint is a little faded, interior is in very acceptable condition (including the headliner). Only real negative is it is an automatic, but my daughter will be driving within the year, so it is a safe car for her to learn with (although I keep thinking transplant a 5 speed and keep it myself).

Here is the problem. It starts right up, but it idles fast (1,400 rpms), runs rough, and it is running extremely rich. The exhaust is very visible (even when it is not cold) and it smells very very rich. I have hesitated to run it much more than about 20 or 30 seconds. I have been through most of the vacuum hoses and replaced some and fixed split ends on others. I used a different AMM from an '86. I cleaned the throttle body. I sucked on the fpr to see if it would hold vacuum (seemed like it did). Nothing has made any change.

The shop that was working on it before the owner gave up, rebuilt the distributor and replaced the coolant sensor. Could it be out of time from the distributor rebuild? The rest of the stuff under the hood seems to be very reasonably maintained for a 20 year old car.

If anyone has any ideas where to look next, I would appreciate. Thanks
