Canadajim, I guess start at the lights and work towards the switch. If the lights are well grounded (black wire) and you apply 12 volts to the white wire at the light assembly the lights should go on. If not then there probably is a problem with the bulbs fitting into their sockets. That's a common place for mucho corrosion. Cheers.
