While doing some spring cleaning on my sister's 1992 Saab 900 non-turbo, I replaced the distributor, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, put in some Chevron FI cleaner, some 93 octane fuel. Topped off fluids, adjusted throttle cable, checked tightness of connections, and drove it around all weekend - ran great! Then headed to the car wash on Sunday morning. I did a quick degrease and power wash under the hood - and although I was being very careful, I'm regretting my decision.
Basically, the car runs and starts fine - however, when slowing down to a near idle when the car is hot, say from 50 MPH, down to second gear, to 5 MPH, the car simply stalls. And sometimes, when at a light and not stalled, it will rev to 1500 RPM and back down. And it would buck slightly when re-accelerating.
I let the car dry out, checked distributor - dry. And took it for a short test drive around the block, no problems. My sister drove the car home and complained of it stalling, as mentioned above.
So, my question is - do you think I forced water into something, or knocked an old hose or wire loose with the power washing? Or could it be due to me adjusting the throttle cable (there was still 1/4 inch of slack play after adjusted, from about 1/2 inch play), or topping off the coolant too high (at hot it was above the MAX line).
I would think plugs, wires, cap and rotor (assuming the auto parts stores gave me the right parts) wouldn't cause this, as the car ran fine before I washed it.
Since the car is now 80 miles away from me, is there anything I should have my sister look at - is there a specific wire or Bosch Motronic (I believe that's what these cars have) that points to this problem? Will drying out some more fix things? Anyone have bad experiences with Bosch Platinum plugs?
