...I actually discussed this issue with several of my buddies who work in mid and upper-mid management at GM. Specifically I was griping about my trucks radiator leaking about the plastic/Aluminum interface. I was told this is a common occurence. The plastic/Aluminum radiators are designed for a finite lifespan and are designed not to be repairable. This is to reduce weight, as every pound lost translates into savings in gasoline over the lifetime of the car. Plastic is also cheaper than metal in both cost and cost to shape the pieces.
I think Soneway, you need to realize that there are statistics on everything. This is because at any time a small part can cause a big lawsuit. Just look at Ford's cruise control module causing fires, or Dodge Durango ball joints wearing prematurely. Automakers follow all parts and keep detailed lists. So does the government, to a lesser degree. It is so bad that frequently all warranty repaired parts go back to the factory for inspection. (That also means they keep all the evidence). So yes, there is documentation about where and how composite radiators fail.
