Yes, the tripod slides out of the inner driver, which stays in place. Of course you can also remove the inner driver if you wish, but that requires an extra step and the axle can be removed without doing so.
You should definitely check out the fixmysaab website because there's a great write-up with tons of pictures that will probably answer most of your questions. Go to the site and navigate to "fix my 900" and then go to "drivetrain"
