84 CIS flaky idle and flooding Posted by Caarl [Email] (#447) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Caarl) on Fri, 28 Apr 2006 17:07:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
84 8-valve non-turbo, 180 k miles.
The car has a chronic tendency to idle too low when partly warmed up. Between Bentley and this board I have gathered several ideas about what to look at, but let's see if this observation is a clue or not:
A few times, when the temperature was just right, it died right after starting and then flooded when trying to restart. I've heard that these cars are prone to flooding if they don't start right away. So my question is whether the flooding is a normal side effect, or if it's telling me something about the cause of the idle problem.
Luckily, the car always starts when flooded. Just floor the throttle and keep cranking! (And keep a good battery in it.)
Thanks!
