I don't think that lower octane delivers lower mpg. If you have a c900 turbo, it will get more boost with higher octane gas. More boost usually produces more power and more fun.
If you have a c900 non-turbo, I don't think the grade of gas makes any difference.
If you have a c900 turbo and it doesn't respond to higher octane with higher boost levels, then something is out-of-tune such as base boost or spark plugs, for example.
