Convertible top - front tack strip Posted by Rod [Email] (#3128) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rod) on Mon, 15 May 2006 12:41:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm part way through replacing my convertible top (1992 900TC), following Pat Price's excellent instrucitons (well they're excellent so far...I haven't finished yet). The tack strip on the front bow is crumbling. A couple of pieces have comee off altogether and most of the rest are loose. This part isn't available separately (unlike the rear tack strip), so I was planning on fabricating one out of some plastic.
Has anyone else gone this route? I read somewhere on here that the plastic is UHMW polyethylene - any truth to this rumor? I checked with McMaster-Carr and I can get this for a few dollars per foot. It looks like I just need to drill out the old rivets and re-rivet the new piece, carefully cut to shape of course. I was just looking for any hints or tips that would make my job easier.
Thanks
Rod
