My 1990 base 900 (non-turbo) has been running great since I replaced the head gasket last fall, and the radiator about a month ago. It starts and runs well even with 252k miles on it.
But last week the CEL came on, and my gas mileage is down from ~30MPG to about 23 MPG. (Could the oil companies be ripping us even more by changing the fuel formulation? We have 10% ethanol mix here in Mass) The CEL had come on and off for the last 2 years, but always went out on the highway.
Idles a little high at about 1000 to 1200 rpm. The AIC has been cleaned.
CEL codes read: 12111 (possible cause= vacuum leak, oxygen sensor, air mass meter.
AND 12241 (possible cause = Check ELCD (what is that?) system, tighten all boot clamps and carefully check all hose connections; check fuel pressure)
Both codes seem to be pointing at the O2 sensor.
I did the check from the Bentley manual on the AMM and that looks fine.
O2 sensor is pretty old, and I haven't done the Bentley check on it yet.
(Where do I find a generic O2 sensor replacement for under $50? - no problem with splicing the wire/connect onto the new sensor.)
And how do I find a vacuum leak?
