I've used regular motor oil. don't use synthetic for honing...
Make sure the brush is all the way in before you turn it on!!! And don't pull it out on the oscillations....
I've also used cutting fluid/water mix when working on a bare block but chances are you're working on one with the crank still in..cover the crank with a rag so you don't hit the journals on the way down. On the other hand, since you have the engine out you should take out the crank and check it for wear and replace the mains and cons and seals.
I'd also do the cam chain tensioner and sliders if not the cam chain as well. Quiet like you wouldn't believe.
