i hope you shut the engine off as soon as you saw the smoke...

did you unscrew the oil filter? or did you unbolt the housing from the block?

if the gasket on your oil filter is not working properly, it probably should have been replaced years ago. i have never seen an oil filter gasket disintegrate... on anything other than a car sitting since 1975.

don't JB weld!!! this is only a temporary fix, one that will almost always make the job more difficult to accomplish in the future. JB is used for those 'i cannot drive home unless this is working' types of jobs.
