If AC is working intermittently, it's likely that moisture in the system is freezing at the expansion valve and plugging it. This stops flow of liquid refrigerant through the valve; hence no cooling. After expansion valve warms up enough to melt the ice plug, it starts cooling again. Moisture with ester oil and R134 causes corrosion inside the system which eats up expensive AC components.
