I just replaced the alternator in my 1992 900S CV this week/ even with a VR change, it was only putting out 11.3V - adjusted all the belts in the process, and all seemed well.

Last evening, I was driving locally and I could hear a rattling noise. Took a closer look today - it's like a vibration/rattle and is there at idle with the car not moving.

Comes and goes about every 5 to 10 seconds - it almost sounds like an exhaust rattle, but it's coming from the engine compartment around the alternator, AC compressor and water pump...

The alternator is a rebuilt Bosch - I did not (yet) replace the bushings as I couldn't get any in time for the alternator swap - I now have some and intend to put them in. (any way to install the bushings without removing the alternator completely again?)

The water pump may well be the original (now 162k miles), but I'm not losing coolant at all. Do the bearings go bad in the pump?

Could this noise come from a belt that isn't quite tight enough?

As usual, all help is greatly appreciated.
