Does anyone out there have a detailed step by step process for troubleshooting and repairing the ignition switch and locking gear mechanism?

(One with pictures would be just great)...

I'm about to dig into it - I've searched this board for specifics, but I've only found snip-its here and there. My symptoms are:

Key rotates freely in the switch cylinder 180 degrees (not all the way around). Car is always ON but won't turn to the START position to crank the starter motor. 5 speed transmission will shift through gears but won't lock in the reverse position.

Possibly asking too much, but this site has come through so many times before, I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for any specifics or references...
