Unfortunately I'm not sure anyone can answer your question with any real accurary - prior to 1986, what came in a Saab was more or less up to the dealer.
The default factory setup in an '84 would probably have the head unit connected to an equalizer via RCA cables, then out to an amp under the rear seat. Bottom line, is if it says Clarion on it, it can go. There is nothing other than the stereo system that's made by Clarion. Same with any RCA cables - if you didn't put them there, they belonged to a/the stereo system, and they can go too.
