Might want to check your radiator cooling fan. Possible that the fuse has blown, or the fan might be slow from aging. About a month ago the outdoor temps where I live began to climb and I noticed the temp guage rising above normal as well. With the AC on and slow driving it would climb even higher. The AC high temp switch turning the AC off told me there was a problem. It turned out the radiator fan fuse had blown. The AC fan worked fine, but that's not enough to keep the temps down to normal levels when needed. A new fuse in place and all temp readings returned to normal. Other factors can cause the rad fan to not work such as a bad temp switch (or it's wiring) on the radiator. The wiring plug that connects the radiator to the main harness can also cause problems. I also had that problem, a combination of corrosion and gunk on the internal plug metal surfaces.
