A little different story...

So two years ago I got a 92 9000CDT auto. was leaking oil. owner said the saab shop said front seal. so I buy the car, drive home, adding 1 qt oil every 1000 miles. at how we take the fender well out, and get to the seal, to find it's bone dry... turns out the right most through bolt hold on the *valve cover* is cracked. you can only see this when torqued down, and it's weeping oil, which runs down to the belt area... I even got the report from the PO where the Saab Tech said front oil seal...

So I needed to purchase a new/used valve cover. only one I could get at the time was from beay auction site. seller was selling the head and the valve cover. so I purchase. it was from a 96 9000, head different, valve cover sale. used the valve cover, but head on shelf.

next time I too a 900 head in for resurface I added the 9K head, pressure test and tested for true. checked out fine - $50.

So, last month I purchase a 1996 9000 Aero 5 speed with 152K miles on it. owner had overheated it, dealer (remember last time with dealer says..) could be cracked head ($3k to fix) or could be short block ($6 more..). But the owner did not pay for them to open it up and check so all was done visually and externally. So I work a deal, $1300 for an Aero in really good shape (california car).

Remember that head with the valve cover? it's the NLS replacement for the Aero. One set of gaskets later, plus associated bushings and the like ($200 total) I'm blasting around in a $1500 1996 Aero 5 speed.

Got a 1990 900 5 speed 3 door today, runs well, base car, paint looks like dirt. $400, and I'm pulling the 5 speed out to put in a 1991 900S auto that I paid $100 for. boy is my wife hopping mad! too many cars!
