My family typically got around 120k or eleven years out of a hall sensor or ignition amplifier (two separate occasions) so I've started replacing them at 100k intervals now. The '82 and newer setups are slightly different (with parts-change breaks in '86 or around there) but the induction/amplifier setup idea is the same. Bentley says the "pulse relay" (labeled on the fusebox) on through-'86 cars will occasionally fail and give a no-start along with the hall sensor (on the distributor) and amplifier (bolted to the LF inner fender, ceramic, should say Bosch).
