i would say no to all accounts
ridges do not disappear
dose not get smaller
and will stay the same diameter as new
if the three bolts are tight holding the shifter down, and
the ball has lube
what do i mean by lube, when new the ball had a form of yellow lube
after time it may need relube but only if ..... the shifter was replaced
and the new shifter ball was whiped clean
if for some reason someone wanted to make a short shifter and cleaned the
ball, many things can clean the balls lube,
what is the prime case that the shifter will do if the lube is cleaned off, after many yrs it may ware the ball but the ware would be hardly noticable, what the shifter will do is shake at anytime, i had this happen to mine, the shifter would shake to no end no matter how fast or slow i was driving, what i did to stop it was take the shifter out of its home and shoved it in a can of c.v. joint grease, didnt look nice but after the shifter was reinstalled no more shifter shake.
(i had bought a new shifter with a very clean ball)
