I'd say if the battery light comes on, and fades out gradually as RPMs rise before going off, its the alternator. If it just turns itself off after a certain RPM range, then it is the alternator brushes. If it stays on all the time while the car is running without fading, I don't know what to tell you. Don't sweat the blank warning light space, its just there. Mine has it too. It's the same as the battery light.
