Three bolts hold the bolster in place: two 10 mm nuts accessible from the engine bay, and a double-nutted bolt behind the ashtray-- remove both nuts. Bolster is furthermore held in place by two U-shaped clips on either half (driver's and pass'r sides) that slide nearly vertically into recesses in the inner dash support. Thus, after removing the bolts, the main thrust of your efforts to remove it should be down and (slightly) out.
It will be obvious once you've removed it but not at all evident before then.
I trust that you've removed the center console and HVAC ductwork?
Sucky job but if I can do it (and I have), most anyone should be able. Silver lining: it will be MUCH easier when you go to remove it next time!
