first of all, i believe post-88 cars have the vented discs inthe front, correct? they are the ones that have the T40 torx screw and the 10mm bolt with the alignemt pin sticking out. pre-88 cars do not have vented front rotors and have philips screws holding the rotor onto the hub. (i may be totally wrong about these model years)
anyway, those screws can be a major pita, especially the philips screws. for both i always use one of those impact drivers. keeping the wheels from turning is important. in the fronts (post-88) i stick a screwdriver in the vent, wedging it against the caliper; for the rears i just pull the hand brake. pre-88 you can pull the hand brake for the fronts, and have an assistant step on the brake pedal for the rears.
alternatively i'll use a 3/8" breaker bar with that torx nut or a long 10mm socket.
as a last resort you can just drill it out. as others have said the metal there is soft.
don't forget to put some anti-seize on the screw before you put it back in.
