I installed a CD/radio into the EQ slot and put the cup holder/coin DIN in the radio spot in my '89 SPG. I rarely use my CD player and my radio is set on one station 99.9% of the time. I don't even adjust the volume much so out of the way is good for me. I like having the cup holder to transport drinks; I seldom drink anything while driving but sometimes I buy a drink to take with me wherever I'm going. You need to be careful when you turn, not only might it spill, but you'll easily hit it with your hands as you turn.
Despite the drawbacks, I like it for the rare occasions I need to carry a drink and I don't have a passenger. So it depends on your situation and your needs.
Just my 2 cents.
