That's a tough judgement call Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Tue, 3 Oct 2006 12:33:33 In Reply to: Re: Turbo whistle -downpipe replacement question, 900Fun, Tue, 3 Oct 2006 11:12:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here's one opinion: For most of us mortals, the stock downpipe is OK. If you use a larger downpipe, you're still stuck with the stock cat, muffler, and the rest of the exhaust pipes.
Even though the hydraulic headloss calcs I use at work aren't directly applicable to gasses, my gut feeling is that needing a reducer at the end of a large downpipe to get to the stock cat would negate most of the gain you'd get from the larger downpipe.
That said, I'd love a larger exhaust system with a better turbo discharge elbow (and relocated battery.) My wallet wouldn't.
The guys on the performance board will be able to give you some more experienced opinions.
