Out of the 5 Saabs I have owned, 2 were automatics. they were not well cared for by previos owners. The second one is currently being swapped for a 5 speed after 175K miles. They were both non-turbo, and although they were slow off the line, they held their own on the highway. I'm not drag racing for pinks, so who cares?I live in NJ, and being faster off the line means you'll be stepping on the brakes sooner. My daily 18 mile commute to work combines highway & local roads, takes 45 minutes, with no less tha a dozen traffic lights to contend with. If I had a Viper, my commute could be cut down to 44½ minutes. My average speed at the end of the week (from a newer car with a computer) is always less than 25 MPH, so paying extra for speed is a waste of money. My biggest regret with the Saab automatics is that they were not a 4 speed with an overdrive, to hold down the revs at highway speeds.
