I think your hand pumping probably sucked in air at the clutch master, thus you have air in the line. I suspect the seals within the master are also worn and it leaking air by too easy. The seal "cuping" faces into the clutch chamber and expands the seal edges against the cylinder wall out as you apply foot pressure. When one uses a vacuum pump (there is no additional pressure to press the seal edge against the cylinder wall) and the seal is worn (no longer has enough seal edge without the compression pressure forcing the seal edge out against the cylinder wall), then air can be drawn into the cylinder. You could get by with pressure purging as recommended by others here but will present a problem in the near future as the seal ages further. I would recommend changing at least the seals of the master as a starter.
