Is it a chance that when you lowered the engine back onto the transmission, the sheet metal gasket got dislodged.

Did you install a bolt through the timing cover into the transmission (right by the oil pump) or did you leave the original stud in place and installed the 13mm nut?

I always remove that stud and install a bolt from above to help future repairs as for example if the timing cover need to come off.

It is no reasons what so ever for that stud to be there except to mess with mechanics who needs to remove the timing cover in site.
