power seat recliner acting strange

For the first time in two years since owning my 900 vert, I used the power recline feature of the driver's seat for more than a slight adjustment. I nearly fully reclined the seat and when I tried to raise it, the motor started to move the seat back up but started only "pushing" one side of the seat back, thereby making it askew. I could tell the motor was under duress as well. What's happening, and what the fix/cost? The passenger side seat works fine and is further proof that something is definitely amiss with the driver's seat mechanism.
Thanks.
