Dan, SLOW down in your desires for the perfect SAAB. At the risk of sounding like the old fart that I am, a bone stock 900 turbo has MORE than enough power and speed for an impetuous 16 year-old boy to get plenty of speeding tickets. Common wisdom that has been shared on this board by much more experienced mechanics than myself have commented to the effect of (this is paraphrased) "when increasing your 900 turbo horsepower, start saving and planning for a $2000-$3000 transmission rebuild/replacement." My son, who is 14 1/2 right now, will be driving a bone-stock 8-valve or 16-valve normally-aspirated (non-turbo) for his first car, just to keep him within range of the posted speed limits. Get your SPG, drive it and sort out the simple things like electric door locks and other minor items. Get to know the car and in a year or two of "talking with the car", it will tell you what things you really need to do. Then you could start with the hot-rod items you want to do. Just my $0.02 of "fatherly" advice.
