The wiring is pretty good but depending on where the car is parked or driven perhaps it was chemically contaminated. There are some pretty bad spots in NJ, for example, that will eat the clearcoat off your car. I've not heard of problems with 90's 900s but whø knows.
Car could also have been severely overheated or run hot with a bad radiator for a long time and maybe that would toast the wiring.
