8 valve non-turbo. I used foreigncarpartsonline.com, no endorsement. The price was nice, but then the shipping took a big chunk out of the cushion, but it is a Bosch part and all.
The base engine timing was okay because you check that at 2000 RPM with the vacuum line to the advance disconnected and plugged.
I found the leak when I was replacing the vacuum lines and tried to suck on the vac advance line and it didn't even come close to holding vacuum.
The hesitation wasn't really hesitation, just that the low-end kick wasn't what I remember and anywhere between 1400-3000 RPM wasn't smooth. It wasn't enough for me to think that the plugs were fouled but it was enough that I'd thought it was the fuel distributor needle valve getting old or a dose of uneven compression or a restricted cold start injector, which it was not. Silky smooth now! All I have to do is clean the (K&N because 8 valves are a pain to change) air filter and I'll be set for the summer!
Of course, I'll tell you what this does to my gas mileage sometime when it's above freezing.
It's almost never the engine's fault.
