1979-1993 & 94 Conv [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I've been lurking on this site for about three weeks now, ever since I acquired a 1993 900S three door.
The Saab has been the first four banger I've owned in almost 25 years. My last four cylinder automobile was a 1979 Plymouth Horizon TC3 with a carbed VW Rabbit-based engine and a wide ratio four speed manual trans. There is just no comparison between the two. The Saab feels much more solid at 114,000+ miles than the TC3 did when it was almost new. The Saab also handles better in it's base "S" trim with questionable rubber then than the TC3 did with its optional handling package. Don't laugh, but it's also a much better performer in a straight line, as the TC3 had all of 80 some-odd HP versus the 900's 140. Despite this the fuel mileage is essentially the same, as I'm averaging 28 mpg in mixed suburban & highway driving (keep in mind that I drove the TC3 back in the day when 55 mph was the legal limit, and they enforced it quite heavily here in NJ).
What blows me away with the members of this site, and with most classic 900 owners in general, as how much of a hands on group they are. I've spent hours using the search feature on this board, and it's helped to answer just about any questions I may have had.
I really picked up the 900 as a beater, and well, now I'm going through the old gal and have decided that she's definitely a keeper.
She has no rust, and no major mechanical problems. The power windows, heated seats, CLS, and sunroof all work fine. The body's straight with just a bit of minor damage to the third-door where someone rear-ended the previous owner in city traffic, and there are a couple of small (almost imperceptible), dents on the hood where his wife dropped a planter on it by accident. The headliner's starting to fall, and she could use a good rubbing out with compound.
What I really wanted to say is "Thank You" for all your help.
