A dropping pedal is a sure sign of master cylinder failure. I ended up replacing one caliper with a rusted bleeder in order to change mine. It wasn't tough at all. Soak the bleeders with penetrating oil and see which ones, if any, will open. Don't forget your clutch. I suggest replacing the clutch master cylinder supply line at the same time; the rubber on mine had degraded to the point where when I removed the line to change the brake master, the line sprung a leak.
If you think degraded fluid is the issue, get some new fluid, suction all the old fluid out of the reservoir, and replace it. A $2 turkey baster makes a great addition to your tool kit.
