The foam is underneath the rubber liner, in turn under the carpeting. It might be buried far enough so you don't smell it unless the heat is driving some evaporation. I had antifreeze in there from a leaky heater valve, & it didn't smell much unless you got your nose right down there.
Another really strange leak I created: Overtightening the hose clamps on the heater valve nipples just forward of the firewall. I made a hairline crack in one of them. Really frustrating searching for the leak - until I broke it wide open by pulling on the heater hoses.
It's all just ideas for you to check & rule out...
