Hi RayF -- OK, what was successful on the red one and not the black one was as follows:
Move the inner spring loaded part to one side as far as possible and look at how much interference there is between the inner part, and the "tab". Then, move it to the other side and see if there is more or less interference with the cap tab. Move it to the side that has the least amount of interference.
Find a tool, like a paint can opener, that can get inside and grab onto the spring loaded inner piece -- if you can move it so that one part of the leading edge will come even with the tab, then try to slide it out by spinning (rotating) the inner through the slot. Otherwise, you would have to bend the tab or make the cap oval and it will break with too much deflection. Since it probably has an oil film anyway, it may slide easily through the slot.
It is a puzzle that requires patience and a steady firm hand at the helm. Slipping the cap back on is somewhat the same as the removal, but you may want to butter it up to slip in into it's new home. The black one with the proper stick markings exploded when I tried to slide out the inner.
Yeah, it now sticks out brighter than a baboon's butt.
