These are sold at discount auto parts stores, also NAPA, in a variety of sizes for just a buck and change usually. If it's a clean crack with still-solid metal fore and aft then you can often get by with one of these and a couple of clamps.
Sometimes you can get one to slide INSIDE one pipe and OVER the other.
I've used Bondo very successfully as a filler in exhaust joints, it bakes up hard, though it has no strength.
Then look to why it broke - - are all the rubber doughnuts that hang the system sound and attached?
But if it's badly burned away, very thin tin, you really are wasting your effort and any money as it's sure to break again pretty soon and it's hard to clamp tight to thin pipes.
And my experience with tin cans is they don't have much strength and flex too much to stay sealed, though it's worth a try.
Muffler bandages are in fact junk, I agree.
