main reason for pulling engine is that there may be other multiple jobs required on it - ie timing chain, oil pump, inner drivers, shift shaft seal, PS rack or pump, all of which are much easier to do with engine out.
also, UCA and LCA mounts have a metal inner sleeve which typically seizes onto the shaft, so getting them off can be rather difficult when working in the cramped space between engine and fender. I think this is why many of these older cars ride so harshly - once the bushing is freed up, the ride improves (i know because i've replaced them myself).
dont know about your experience and facilities to yank an engine but its definitely an adventure the first time!
