My 90 SPG has the old rear hook style front seats, and it has been driving me crazy that the seat tracks/height adjuster is a little loose. So every time I sit on the seat, get up or drive aggressively the seat slightly moves. Makes the car feel a little loose. I swapped the seat tracks for those from a passenger side seat -- BRILLIANT. ONE of the best things I've done for the SPG (feels tighter, ie the way it should).

So I pulled from a junker the PASSENGER side seat tracks from a 86 or so 3 door, thinking that I could swap the 2 lower tracks for the drivers side seat height adjuster/track combo.

Bingo. It worked. I'm strictly talking about the 1990 and before 3 door cars without passive belts here. A couple things:

1) the drivers seat now doesn't go back quite as far as it used to. I'm 6'4" so I notice, it's still OK for me, but I think I lost one "notch" -- I always noticed that at the farthest back the drivers seat was always rearward of the passenger seat at the same position. Now the 2 seats are in the same position when all the way back.

2) It looks great. I cleaned and repainted in gloss paint the new passenger side tracks. Looks like a new saab down there.

3) The tracks mount in different places than the height adjuster mechanism... they mount just like the passenger seat.

4) You need to remove the "captive nut" type of deal from the passenger side of a 3 door and swap it to the drivers side front mount. It just slides under the metal brace. The passenger side front mount of the drivers side seat already has a hole threaded & tapped. Easy peasy.

5) There are of course 2 about 2" x 4" rectangles cut out of the carpet where those black height adjuster mechanisms used to cover up the hole in the carpet. Mine are actually painted nicely and look OK,... but I think I'm going to grab spare carpet and put patches in...

All told... I read on this board and couldn't find anyone else talking about doing this. Bottom line, if your drivers seat wiggles on your otherwise pretty perfect c900 pre 91 model (not passive belt cars), do this. You'll be psyched.
